Kip Parent, President

A fourth-generation native of the Bay Area, Kip Parent has been a resident of San Mateo for 24 years with his wife Leslie, and three sons.  His sons attended Laurel Elementary, where Leslie served as PTA president, and Abbott Middle School, where Kip served on the Site Council.

Kip has been a member of the for kids! Board of Directors since 2003, and is currently serving his 4th year as President for 2008-09.  Under his leadership, for kids! has implemented it’s annual phone bank fundraising campaign, established a partnership with the San Francisco Giants, and expanded for kids! funding initiatives to include middle school counseling services in addition to its traditional areas of libraries, elementary and middle school music education, elementary school counseling services, and technology infrastructure.

Kip’s professional background includes the founding and leadership of several successful technology companies.  He currently serves as CEO of AdvisorTeam.com, Inc, an Internet e-commerce company headquartered in San Mateo.  He is a passionate golfer with a mission of lowering his handicap to single digits before he turns 50!

Mike Nagler

Mike Nagler has been on the for kids! Board for seven years, where he has chaired the Annual Campaign, among other duties.  An employee of the school district for over thirty years, he has held leadership positions for the classified staff, as well as serving as a member of the district's Strategic Planning Committee. In addition to teaching fiction writing and film history at Canada College, he is the editor of two anthologies of short stories.

Susan Totaro

Susan Totaro is currently the principal at Horrall Technology Integration School.  She started with the San Mateo Foster City School District as a volunteer parent in 1982.  Shortly there after Susan was PTA president, SITE Council Chairperson, and classroom helper at Laurel School.  She continued to be active in various organizations over the years in not only San Mateo Foster City School District, but San Mateo Unified School District.  Mrs. Totaro was one of the original board members on the San Mateo County Fine and Performing Arts Board of Directors. 

 Mrs. Totaro has been an ELD Tutor, classroom teacher, mentor, BTSA coach, PAR coach, a COMP trainer, and ELD coach.  She has written a section in the Santa Cruz New Teacher Project book entitled Mentors in the Making.  Susan was awarded the Teacher of the Year for San Mateo Foster City School District and has received numerous awards including PTA Honorary Service, Continuing Honorary Service and Life Time Service from both the elementary and the high school districts.
